This Speedmaster Professional is part of the ‘Patches Series’ which was created to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Speedmaster back in 1997. The collection in total contains 23 watches each commemorating the Skylab, Gemini and Apollo space missions.

This Speedmaster Professional is part of the ‘Patches Series’ which was created to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Speedmaster back in 1997. The collection in total contains 23 watches each commemorating the Skylab, Gemini and Apollo space missions. Roughly 100 – 200 pieces made of each watch in the collection there were a further 50 cases made to hold a full collection of which only 40 of these were ever made to be sold to the public. The collection contains 22 Spoeedmaster’s (of which this is one) that have Nasa patches on the left subsidiary dial with the final watch in the collection being an exact replica of the 1957 Speedmaster model.

This particular model from the the collection was from the Gemini IX mission which lasted 3 days in 1966 consisting of 45 orbits of Earth left by Pilot Eugene A Cernan.

What do we know about this very watch? Brought in November 1998 this watch has had just one owner for all of those years being a daily worn watch and regularly serviced over the years we brought the watch. We have chosen not to polish or carry our any major work as the watch has passed all pressure and time testing which allows us to offer a full 12 month guarantee. Originally brought in Lanzarote for 260,000 Spainsh Pesetas! How do we know that, well we have the original card payment receipt along with some notes from the original sale. Unfortunately, the box hasn’t survived the 20 odd or so years neither can we say it is sold with Original Papers as believe it or not the original Omega retailer has just scribbled some details over a card not matching this watch! We can date the sale from the receipt and we are confident the original buyer’s story is correct. We do have a letter from Omega dated November 1999 roughly a year after the watch was first brought, this although adds no values is quite nice to read as it a request from the original buyer of the watch to Omega asking about the ‘Patches Series’ and they are kind enough to respond back with a letter and some generic documents relating to the series.

The watch in question has a 42mm stainless steel case with original Omega engraving to the rear of the case. Bracelet believed to be original to the watch has some additional links and would fit up to a 7.75 inches wrist. Manufactured in 1998 this watch operates with the manual wind Calibre 1861 movement. Limited production run up to 200 pieces. Waterproof to 50 meters, plexiglass with original dial.
